Growing up, my Dad always took me and then later my siblings on adventures. We would wander and explore and check things out. It was rarely planned. It was always fun. Since moving to Oahu, I try to explore here and there and not have an agenda. Because being lost with no concern of time, it so peaceful.
With my Mom visiting, we have been exploring a lot. I found this really neat photo on instagram, and had no idea where it was, but I knew I had to go there. Turns out it was in Kailua area, my friends are awesome and helped me find it.
Well I've also been working on self portrait challenges in my spare time. So I had planned on taking some self portraits at this spot (which I did, and I'll probably edit them next week.. or maybe next year).
Then this couple came down the path and took some cell photo shots and were hanging out, its a REALLY small spot. So I asked if they wanted me to take a few shots and I would email them. They said yes, and it must have been meant to be. As it turns out they are from my home state (Oregon) and were visiting friends in Kailua. They were awesome! This whole experience reminded me of when I was a teenager maybe.. 16.. or 17. One of my sisters was really shy, so my Dad told me to take her downtown Portland to talk to people. So because I was born a photographer, I turned it into an adventure. I had her approach people and ask them to model with her. The whole thing was fun. Maybe I'll just ask random people at beach if they want photos taken.. who knows. This was fun :) Here are a few photos of this awesome random couple.

Adventure is in my soul.
Growing up my Dad would always take me to go do things, the beach, the mountains, downtown, and so much more. I remember so many carefree adventures just wandering around in nature. Being a work from home Mom and military spouse, I find us spending days at home, although we aren't usually bored between random craft projects and imaginative play, we need to spend more time outside.

I've been dedicating Fridays to adventuring, I call it Adventure Friday. I know original. So a few weeks ago my oldest (going to be 6 soon!) was of school, so we went to Lyon Arboretum for the afternoon. Don't be like Chelsie and forget the toddlers shoes. Other then that it was amazing! So quiet and relaxing, the kids enjoyed wandering around, I let them pick where we went and I followed along. Randomly having to carry the toddler under one arm because I had the baby in the ergo.
There are so many trails, hikes, and scenic view spots! We only checked out a few because toddler legs get tired easy. If you're on Oahu visiting or living here, check this place out!

I decided to re-write this blog, because it really didn't hit the nail on the head. I want to be myself in my photography, writing, and client experience.
So here it is, raw, uncut, Chelsie+ cold brew coffee.
I love cake smash photo shoot, I love fun photo shoots. I LOVE LAUGHTER.
Being a military spouse is HARD, I'm not talking about moving, anyone can pack some boxes and move across the country or ocean. What makes it hard is long hours, unpredictability, not being able to plan more than 3 months out, and friends. That last one really kills me. It is so hard to make friends when you are a military spouse, when you are a working military spouse, when you are a stay at home mom and military spouse, when you are a work at home mom and military spouse. You would think if you threw 30,000 people on a base if would be easier to find friends... But everyone is leaving or just got here. I've made some many almost super good friends but then they leave or I leave, or.. or.. shit happens. So when you find that one person who got here about the same time and has ALL the same interests and makes your face hurt from laughing, hand cuff yourself to them, just kidding, but don't let that go. Not with this lifestyle, hang on to those friendships.
I know both of these amazing women. They are ladies I wish I could spend more time with.
Gloria is a seriously kick ass posed newborn photographer, like seriously if you have a baby growing in your belly, call her. ASAP. Or maybe this is a reason to get busy and make a baby ;) LINK Not only is she an amazing photographer, she is an amazing Mother, she is such a warm and happy person to be around. Also no way is she 37.
Elsie, I mostly know her over facebook, but have met her several times, and she is amazing. LINK She is also an amazing Mother, photographer, and super good lookin' hey girllll.
The cakes were from none other than Sweet Newbyginnings ! I tried them and they were really good! I love how she added the ribbon to hide the cardboard!
This was one of those sessions, where I came home and excitedly loaded my card and started looking through all billion photos, smiling ear to ear because of all the amazing moments and laughter during the session. These ladies were/are amazing, so full of love, laughter, and you could tell their friendship is worth the world.
Ask all my clients, I get so emotionally invested, I almost always cry at some point, but Gloria and Elsie had my laugh crying so hard my face hurt and I got a good ab work out.

Poppin' Bottles of Champagne
So here's what happened. We very vaguely planned this Gloria told me she had a friend and they wanted to do a cake smash, she told me the theme and we picked a date and time. Last minute I thought about champagne and a giant unicorn floaty. So Gloria being the bad ass she is, went and found the floaty! Target, YEY! So day of, we are all excited get there, setup. It's so windy, like sandy is flying! Eventually we get to poppin' the bottles and well that was hilarious and warm. Have you drank warm champagne, don't do it.
Seriously they can't be 37!

When the unicorn goes for a swim
If you follow me, you know splash sessions are my THING, I love them so so much! SO I was like, hey get on that unicorn and get in the water. They were totally game, and it was awesome, the small waves rolling in, making them almost tip over. It was a blast, then Elsie was on it by her self, I'm about ankle deep in the water, and she just started floating out, and out... and out some more. So I start wading through the water and end up to my belly button deep, holding my camera way above my head, and in the other hand is the unicorn with Elsie on it! Mean while Gloria is laughing so hard from the shore. Oh how this was so amazing.

Seriously, they are stunning! I'm so glad I got to photograph this amazing family for their maternity session at Kualoa State Park, Oahu.
Now only was Levi one of the coolest 3 year old boys I've met, he was fascinated by the sticks and rocks. Since I have 3 daughters this was so much fun to see him more into "boy things". It was also so adorable when he would give his Mom kisses and see the sweet side. He also got a chance to fly!!! Here are a few photos from their session.

And memories were made... the kind that warm your heart so much you get goosebumps from chills, no matter how warm it is on Oahu. The memories that you can close your eyes and remember the sweet little laughs, the flour coating her hair. The kind that you cry happy tears because even though this isn't your family, you love being a photographer and capturing what one day will be their history.. oh I started talking about me.. or maybe I was the whole time. These are the sessions I live for, the moments I hope to imprint on their memory. I want those little girls to have an album and look through and OOO and AWW over all the fun, funny, cute photos. And because they are a military family living on Oahu, I want them to remember their house, because we all know that changes every 2-3 years. Which is both "refreshing" and "irritating", but it is the lifestyle.

I would like to start off with.. any reason is the perfect reason to have a cake or food smash photo shoot. or even no reason at all! Either its your birthday, half birthday, your businesses birthday, your divorce, a celebration, or just for fun! Let's smash some cake or food.
Cake or Food?
How do you decide? There are so many options. For one cakes can be customized to fit any theme! You want a race car, unicorn, hello kitty, naked cake, rainbows, geo cake, barbie, pineapple, penis cake.. that can be made too. Whatever you want, there is a baker for that or a pinterest DIY.
Food! So many options, want donuts covered in sprinkles? powder? maple bars? yum! There's also, pizza, tacos, spaghetti, McDonalds chicken nuggets is trending right now, but also startbucks, ribs, cereal, watermelon, etc. Endless ideas, pick your favorite and go for it!

BYOB. ;)
What do I wear?
You'll be wearing your food by the end so the clothes don't really matter! Just kidding, maybe... but pick something that makes you feel amazing! Maybe its a little black dress, or maybe its jeans and a hip t-shirt. Or wear a mermaid tail, I've got plenty to pick from ;)

This family is amazing! First of all we picked the perfect spot on Oahu to do their family maternity photo session. We picked Kualoa State Park. I absolutely adore this location on Oahu. It has the perfect mix of beach, field, mountain views. Plus the water is stunning and calm for toddlers, babies, and small children.
This family has done a few sessions with me, I loved being able to photograph the growth of their family from a family of 4 to 5!

Lately it's been pretty rainy here on Oahu. Not that it
actually" has been cold. I have considered getting those good
old' fashion toe socks, since I can't seem to not wear flip flops.
We had a few glimpses of sunshine this week. I also managed to make it to the store with all three children. We picked up a ton of fruit, might be because we are trying to eat healthier snacks or it might be for photo shoot... maybe both.. or we're just fruity. My middle child, the only one not born on Oahu, we call her danger, because he outrageous lifestyle and being a tad crazy. She picked the watermelon, and was way to excited to wait till sister got home to share.
It was actually really nice to sit in a soggy field, chase the baby who is crawling and tries to eat grass, and let them just enjoy a tiny bit of sun, and a lot of watermelon.
